Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven but Nobody Wants to Die Posted on November 12, 2008 12:00 AM MST by Kasey Heinly
It’s kind of a random telling—with hilarious footnotes, IM conversations between the authors, and sections paralleling three stories of grief side by side in columns. The story is more a meditation than a how to type of book that explores our fascination with and longing for heaven, and yet the ache in our souls that comes when a loved one leaves us behind for those brighter shores.
The authors dance up to the subject sideways, approaching it tentatively, presenting ideas and then letting the reader draw conclusions. It’s easy to empathize with the struggles Crowder and Hogan endure and to laugh at the quirkiness with which they relate their experiences. Crowder and Hogan explore the subject of death and bereavement with reverence, exposing the wounds in their own souls, and yet not without an eye to the hope and glory of what awaits us on the other side. |

Stunned by the sudden loss of a close friend, David Crowder and Mike Hogan started on a journey exploring the historical understanding of the soul, of grief, and the origins of blue grass music. All that ties together. Really.
