Stained Glass Windows

Posted on January 1, 2010 12:00 AM MST by Tiffany Kinerson

How grateful I am for the many colored relationships God placed around me. Beautifully impermanent, yet remarkably steadfast, much like a stained glass window in an ancient structure.

Every new year’s passage adds in more colors, more life to my window. The reds of wisdom solder to the green of maturity. Gold, blue, bronze, and black mix with yellow, orange, violet, and white. Impermanence of soul, trustworthiness of Christ. The study of His artistry has become more than a discipline, it’s become the spectacles of reality for me.

He created beauty in my relationships. But husband, child, parent, and friend are not my purpose on earth. They are not intended to be my “everything,” my foundation. They’re just a shining chip reflective of Christ.

Forgiveness is easier when I feel the wind rattle against the panes of another. Appreciation of others is clearer when the kaleidoscope of my heart finds its dimensions in God alone. Humans are frail, God is not.

The new year has already begun with potential for new relationships, both in work and with friends. It’s exciting to think about. What new colors will this decade bring? Will it be negotiations for better jobs or new locations? New life, new death, new chances, new changes? What will I say when I step back to see the masterpiece God designs this next year?

Tell me, how’s the view from your stained glass window?
